What’s the difference between a dietitian and a nutritionist?

Registered Dietitians (RD’s), or Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDN’s), are individuals who have completed the minimum requirements of a Baccalaureate degree granted by a U.S. regionally accredited college or university, or foreign equivalent;

  • met current minimum academic requirements (Didactic Program in Dietetics) as approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics;
  • completed a supervised practice program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics consisting of at least 1,200 hours
  • successfully completed the Registration Examination for Dietitians;
  • complied with the Professional Development Portfolio (PDP) recertification requirements, including 75 hours of continuing education credits every 5 years

“Nutritionist” is not a legally protected title, but is a vague title describing any individual who provides nutrition advice. This advice is not legally protected, and ‘nutritionists’ may be unqualified to provide safe nutrition information.

All Essence Dietitians hold Master’s degrees in Dietetics and Nutrition from ACEND-accredited universities and have completed graduate-level research as well as various coursework in biochemical and organic chemical sciences. They also have a minimum of two years work experience in a clinical facility (hospital).

Do you do anything else besides personalized nutrition counseling?

Yes! We love working with corporations, businesses, organizations, and community groups to provide seminars, “lunch and learn” sessions, and cooking demonstrations to enhance corporate wellness. We also are available for speaking engagements, interviews, quotations for articles or reports, and community event/special event participation.

Essence dietitians can also be booked for personal at-home pantry makeovers and supermarket tours for individual clients or groups.

Do you have partnerships?

Yes! We believe firmly in linking up with anyone who shares our nutrition vision. Our partnerships are dynamic but we currently work with kitchen and cooking consultants, psychologists, physicians of all specialties, chefs, personal trainers, massage therapists, physical therapists, animal nutritionists, bloggers, yoga/pilates instructors, gyms, restaurants, juice bars, nutrition product companies, and even other, non-health related businesses like dog-walkers and boutiques. We have a lot of friends! We are always happy to provide referrals to our preferred specialists as listed above. If you are interested in partnering with us, please get in touch.

Where are you located?

We are conveniently located in Midtown Miami at 3250 NE 1st Avenue, Miami, FL 33137.

Do you have a referral program?

Yes, please share the Essence love! For every client you refer who books with us, you will receive 20% off your next appointment. If you refer four booked clients, you receive a free session!

Do you see pediatric patients?

Absolutely. One of our Essence dietitians specializes in pediatric nutrition – she worked in a pediatric hospital for two years. We love kids!

Do you take insurance?

Essence Nutrition is able to accept payment through HSA/FSA accounts. We also accept checks, cash, and all major credit cards via the Square app.

SERIOUSLY – EVERYONE ALWAYS ASKS THIS!! The answer is a resounding NO. Sorry to disappoint, but dietitians are humans, too!
